CASTERBRIDGE MUSIC DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY
CMDA, PAC and Jozi
The activities at the CMDA (Casterbridge Music Development Academy) were borne out of a desire to set up a music development programme. Several such programmes exist around the world and one that works particularly well is based in Charlottesville, Virginia - and this is a model that we intend replicating. They have 700 students enrolled for a nominal fee. For this they are provided music and dance training, access to a wide variety of music equipment including a fully equipped recording studio. The majority of the costs are sponsored by corporate donors.
For corporate sponsors to donate funds to such a programme, it is essential that it is a not-for-profit organisation and is registered as a public benefit organisation. An application to establish this is now in the pipeline and once registered, fund raising will begin in earnest. Until then, we are promoting music and dance in our community by arranging Variety Evenings where our developing talent can perform in front of, and hopefully entertain our community at an affordable price.
The Casterbridge Music Development Programme aims to identify, nurture and grow young talent from all areas of the community and to then provide them with exposure and performance experience which we believe is a win-win. On the one hand, our community gets to have a fun evening out where they are entertained by our brilliant Lowveld talent - at very affordable prices. On the other, our talented youths are getting a platform for their craft, to gain experience, and the opportunity to perform in front of the vibey Lowvelders.
A portion of funds raised from most other performances held at the CMDA are allocated to the Casterbridge Music Development Programme. For further information, contact Michael Matthews via email.
